Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has issued a frank assessment on Unai Emery at Arsenal, after 44 matches under the Spaniard.
The Gunners have struggled to find consistency this season and questions have been asked about their exposed defence, which has conceded a remarkable 110 shots on goal so far in eight Premier League matches.
That record, accompanied by shaky performances overall, has seen some supporters starting to wonder if another change in the top is required - and Carragher has warned that it will continue unless performances start to change.
“When he came in, I thought he was going to be a manager that’s maybe a little bit different to Arsene Wenger, more organised and more pragmatic,” he told Sky Sports.
“I think that’s what Arsenal fans thought they were getting in Unai Emery and it hasn’t really been that. If you look at the results of this season, it’s all over the place.
“It almost looks like they’ve brought in a basketball coach. The shots faced in these games, Burnley at home, Watford we know was a record, it’s not normal. 33 shots in average in a game.
“They are the team at the moment that everyone probably wants to watch, except for Arsenal fans. Entertaining, end-to-end games, everyone loves it except their own supporters.
“If that doesn’t change, at the end of the season the fans will probably want another manager and will say they’re not seeing anything different. I think the feeling from Arsenal fans is ‘what are we actually getting from Unai Emery?
“They’re not getting what we thought they would be getting initially and the games they are involved in have to change if they want to be successful.”
