Jamie Carragher hits back after Roy Keane's brutal put down on Liverpool's title failure

Jamie Carragher has responded after Roy Keane's withering put down over Liverpool's title failure on Sky Sports.

The pundits were in the studio discussing Manchester United's latest defeat by West Ham when Carragher suggested a few signings could make all the difference.

Carragher explained how the Luis Suarez signing nearly brought Liverpool Premier League title success a few years ago, to which Keane responded: "Jamie, you said almost winning the title. You didn't win a title."

The withering response left Carragher with little to say, but he has since responded with a message on Twitter: "Keane and Neville throwing the league on the same day!

"My point was to defend United and say it's never as bad as it seems and two/three players can change it.

"Like United I'll take defeat on the chin and come back stronger next week on Monday Night Football with Roy Keane!"

Carragher had been trying to draw parallels between United's current situation and the one he found himself in at Liverpool a few seasons ago.

"I was in this position at Liverpool where you are trying to catch teams," Carragher said.

Keane was quick to point out that Liverpool have never won the Premier League (Sky Sports)

"Sometimes you just need that two or three players who can transform them. I think of Luis Suarez coming to Liverpool.

"For three or four years we were finishing sixth and seventh, where United are and then almost won the title.

"Sometimes that one player can make all the difference."

The heated debate took place in the Sky Sports studio (Sky Sports)

Keane pointed out that despite Suarez, Liverpool still didn't win the title, to which Carragher responded by saying more signings would help United "bridge the gap".

Keane then snapped back: "But Liverpool are still trying to bridge that gap."
