Jamie Carragher highlights the defensive change Liverpool have made this season

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has had his say on the 'high line' debate and what the Reds have changed in their defensive patterns of play this season.

And he has sounded a warning ahead of the visit of Arsenal this weekend.

Arsenal will be able to call on the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe when they come to Anfield on Saturday.

All three players are blessed with great pace - and with Liverpool conceding against Norwich after a run in behind from Teemu Pukki, Carragher thinks Arsenal’s speed has the potential to cause the Reds problems.

Speaking on Sky Sport’s Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “What Liverpool have done this season, we’re talking about them playing a high line, I’m not necessarily sure it’s a higher line, but it looks to me as if they’re trying to play offside.

"They've caught players offside more than anyone in the Premier League this season.”

Despite the offside trap working on many occasions, Carragher added: “I don’t like it and I think they’ve been lucky and fortunate at different times this season to get away with it.

When asked about Arsenal’s pace Carragher added: “You think about on the counter-attack as well, Liverpool playing higher up on the pitch on Saturday.

"I said after the Norwich game, if they were playing a top team they may not have won. Considering they won 4-1, it’s a big thing to say I suppose.

"But the quality Arsenal have, if Liverpool get caught in those positions and don’t run back, they’re going to have major problems within that game.”

Liverpool achieved the most clean sheets last season, but go into the game on Saturday having conceded one goal in both of their Premier League games this season.
