Jamie Carragher believes that Jadon Sancho is a better signing for Manchester United than Raphael Varane.
United have enjoyed an excellent summer so far with the arrival of two world-class players.
Sancho has finally arrived at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund after the club failed to sign him in three previous attempts, paying £72.9million for the exciting winger.
Varane is expected to be officially announced as a United player soon, having completed his medical, with visa issues delaying his move to Manchester.
United made a new centre-back one of their biggest priorities for the summer transfer window as a porous back-line saw them slip up in the Premier League title race and fail to winner any other piece of silverware last term.
They couldn't have got anyone much better than Varane, who has won all there is to win in his sparkling decade at Real Madrid, and managed to sign him for a steal at £43million to make a formidable partnership with captain Harry Maguire.
However, Carragher reckons Sancho will be the better addition for United in the long term.
“I actually think the acquisition of Sancho is a really good signing," the Liverpool legend told UMM.
"I think Varane has been brilliant for Real Madrid next to Ramos. But I actually think Sancho is a better signing for Man Utd long term.”
Carragher also aimed a dig at his Sky Sports colleague and former United captain Gary Neville when asked about his infamous 'no one wants to grow up to be Gary Neville’ quote.
“They may want to grow up and be a Trent Alexander-Arnold, they may want to grow up and be Reece James," he added.
"They want to grow up and be right-backs - but they don’t want to be Gary Neville! You don’t want them to be a steady Eddie, 6 out of 10 every week. He thinks he’s Prime Minister doesn’t he!”
