Jamie Carragher gives unexpected Premier League title advice to Liverpool as Barcelona clash looms

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has suggested Jurgen Klopp may need to revisit his priorities next week ahead of the Champions League clash with Barcelona.

The Reds travel to Camp Nou on Wednesday for the first leg before welcoming the La Liga leaders Anfield six days later - with the matches falling either side of a Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League title are now out of their own hands after Manchester City’s victory over Manchester United in midweek, as the Reds require City to drop points in the last three matches if a 29-year wait for a league title is to come to an end.

While Liverpool will be desperate to take advantage of any slip that occurs, Carragher believes the Champions League may have to become the priority if City get past Burnley - as he clearly feels it would leave Pep Guardiola’s side on the brink of retaining their title.

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk hailed as 'best in world' by Premier League midfielder

“I definitely think on Monday/Tuesday he has a decision to make about the team he picks for Barcelona on the back of City’s result because yes the league is more important for Liverpool but the Champions League is huge," said Carragher to Sky Sports.

“The Champions League is the biggest trophy in the world. The only it’s not the biggest for is Liverpool this season because Liverpool have gone so long without winning the title but any other club that made the last 16 of the Champions League would have rather won it.

“It was almost like the Porto game was an after-thought. But now you’re getting to the semi-finals, it’s Barcelona. If City are still in front, I think you then have to make a big decision because I don’t think you can play the same team three times in six days.

“For me, I may be wrong, but I think something has to give at Newcastle and you have to make changes in that game.”
