Jamie Carragher gives Jurgen Klopp Champions League team selection advice

Jamie Carragher says he expects Jurgen Klopp not to take any chances with his team selection for Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Porto in Portugal on Wednesday.

The Reds go into the game 2-0 up from the Anfield first leg thanks to goals from Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino, but Carragher says the second leg will be far from a formality.

“I expect them to go through but 2-0 is the type of score where Klopp cannot afford to take any chances with the team," the former Reds defender exclusively told the Liverpool Echo .

“You've got to field your strongest line up and finish the job off.

Liverpool youngster closes in on transfer to Premier League rivals

“If Liverpool had won by three or four at Anfield you maybe could have looked at taking two or three out.

“But you have to go with your strongest side for this one and then there's a decent break until the Cardiff game on Sunday.”

That Cardiff game promises to be another crucial one in Liverpool's Premier League title challenge, but Carragher adds that they are more than capable of holding their own in Europe too.

“I don't think there's anything to fear whoever Liverpool come up against,” he added.

Liverpool's response to Real Madrid's Sadio Mane transfer enquiry 'revealed'

“Of course you have respect for sides but Liverpool have shown in getting to the final last year and in getting to the latter stages again this time around that they are on a par with anything in Europe.

“It's on any given day whether you're at your best, whether decisions go your way, whether you make mistakes. Whether it's United or Barcelona who get through, it will be a tough, tight semi-final, whoever is there waiting.”
