Jamie Carragher gives Harry Kane Liverpool nickname after display against Man City

Jamie Carragher has given Harry Kane a Liverpool nickname following his performance for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City.

Kane put in a fine performance to help Spurs to a 2-0 victory that hands Liverpool's rivals a blow in the title race. It also moved Spurs to the top of the league.

Kane has been in superb form recently - and it has been noticed by Carragher.

The former Reds defender said the sly nature of some of Kane's play, such as buying free-kicks and slowing the play down, would earn Kane a certain nickname if he was playing in amateur football in Merseyside.

"I love Harry Kane!" Carragher wrote on Twitter.

"So clever with his passing, getting fouls, making fouls, slowing the game down, speaking to the referee.

"In Liverpool amateur football circles he’d be called ‘An arl ***!"

Kane's performance also won praise from Carragher's Sky Sports colleague Gary Neville, who said it was the best he had seen the striker play since a 2017 performance against the Reds that saw Dejan Lovren substituted after 30 minutes.

Neville said: "He is messing with them like you wouldn’t believe.

"I remember a few years ago when they played at Wembley against Liverpool, Harry Kane was sensational, I think against Dejan Lovren that day - I think he got substituted.

"This is as good as I’ve seen him since then. He’s had some brilliant games, but in a top game, a hard game against Man City, he’s been spectacular."

He later added: "There was a point earlier in Jose Mourinho’s reign, where I wondered if Harry Kane was happy, whether the football was of the quality they expected, because they played great football under Pochettino.

"But now, it’s definitely got him going and Kane is playing some of his best stuff. His game is adapting as well."
