Jamie Carragher fuels Erling Haaland to Man City transfer talk amid Manchester United links

Jamie Carragher has fuelled speculation that Erling Haaland could be on his way to Manchester in the summer transfer window.

The Borussia Dortmund striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Manchester City both reported to be interested, along with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.

Real Madrid and Juventus are also said to be keen on the prolific Norwegian international.

Haaland has scored 38 goals in just 40 appearances since joining Dortmund from RB Salzburg last year.

This season, the 20-year-old has netted 22 goals in 22 club outings in all competitions.

The forward certainly has plenty of links to England. He was born in Leeds and his father Alf-Inge Haaland played for City, as well as Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, Haaland played under United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde in their native Norway.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher has suggested that City could be "going big" to land Haaland at the end of the season.

City have had to cope without all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero for much of the current campaign due to injury problems, while Gabriel Jesus has also been in and out of the side.

Pep Guardiola deployed Phil Foden as a "false nine" to good effect in Sunday's 4-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, with Bernardo Silva supporting him in attack following a half-time switch to a 4-4-2 formation.

Ilkay Gundogan has also been providing a significant goal threat from midfield, and netted twice against Jurgen Klopp's men, after missing a first-half penalty.

Asked if anyone could have seen City's four second-half goals coming at Liverpool, Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports: “No, I don’t think so - and I think with Man City having problems with strikers.

"Jesus didn’t play (against Liverpool), how much confidence does Pep have in him? Aguero being out and talk of City maybe going big in the summer and bringing Haaland to the Premier League, so other people have to step up to the plate and (Gundogan) has done it more than anyone."

Gundogan is now City's joint top scorer this season with 11 goals in all competitions, along with Raheem Sterling.

Foden is just behind on 10 goals, with Ferran Torres, Jesus and Riyad Mahrez on eight, seven and six respectively.

Aguero has only managed two goals in nine outings to date in 2020-21.
