Jamie Carragher explains why Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is right to make a stand about FA Cup

Jamie Carragher has waded into the debate over whether Jurgen Klopp is right to make a stand against the scheduling of his side's FA Cup replay with Shrewsbury Town.

Klopp says neither he nor his senior side will be available for the game as they are on their scheduled winter break, so under-23s manager Neil Critchley will take charge of the match instead, with a team made up of Academy players.

The Liverpool boss said: "You cannot deal with us like nobody cares about it. I know it's not very popular but that's the way I see it.

"The Premier League asked us to respect the winter break. That's what we do.

"If the FA doesn't respect it we cannot change it. We will not be there."

But Carragher says while the decision not to field senior stars like Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in the game is correct, the Reds boss should be there to manage the game.

The former Reds defender tweeted: "Senior players having a winter break is right, you can’t implement one & then have a replay in the break.

"That’s the same for all PL clubs.

"But Klopp should take the team, his young players will be delighted & the picture of him in Ibiza with a [beer] will be on every front page!"
