Jamie Carragher explains why Arsenal's Invincibles side of 2004 were so good

Jamie Carragher has admitted thinking Arsenal's great Invincibles side would beat Liverpool often before he had even set foot on the pitch.

The Gunners' squad of 2003/04 went the entire Premier League campaign unbeaten, and boasted the likes of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira and Sol Campbell in their ranks.

Liverpool faced a few difficult afternoons against Arsene Wenger's men at the time, with Carragher regularly tasked with keeping tabs on Henry.

Carragher told The Football Show on Sky Sports: "I think that Arsenal team he [Henry] played in - the Invincibles - and two or three years around that, that would certainly be the toughest opponent I played at home and abroad.

"The problem with Thierry Henry was, when you actually get in the tunnel, some of that Arsenal team, everyone was 6ft2, everyone had shoulders out here.

"And you look at the physical battle, you couldn't knock them off their stride, they were too physically strong for you at times.

"At times you had that feeling in the tunnel with Arsenal [that you wouldn't win]."

Arsenal did the double over Liverpool in the Premier League during the 2003/04 season, winning 2-1 at Anfield before sealing a 4-2 victory at Highbury.

Carragher was given a torrid afternoon against Henry in the away trip, with the Frenchman leaving him and several other Liverpool defenders in his wake on the way to scoring a superb solo goal.

But it wasn't just Henry who proved to be a handful for the Reds.

"When you just come up alongside them and the sheer size of them," Carragher added. "You knew how great they were as players, but sometimes you had to stand alongside them to really understand the physicality.

"Bergkamp was a huge man as well.

"So that's why I always choose that team of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal as my toughest opponent."
