Jamie Carragher explains Alisson and Roberto Firmino snubs and names Liverpool player 'always' in his team

Jamie Carragher has explained his decision to exclude Liverpool stars Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino from his Sky Sports Premier League team of the season.

Carragher picked Dean Henderson as goalkeeper for his XI while Sergio Aguero was supported in attack by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

When asked about the selection, Carragher replied: "I love Firmino but I think he’s had better seasons, not scoring at Anfield in the Premier League didn’t help!

"When [Alisson has] played he’s been fantastic and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone in the world right now, but I think Sheff Utd have been that good this season they deserved [Henderson] in there!"

The Liverpool legend explained Salah made the cut due to impressive goal and assist statistics as well as choosing players based on position, resulting in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing out behind the Egyptian.

Challenged by a supporter about the inclusion of Jordan Henderson, Carragher said: "He could get Player of the Year so he was always in my team!"

Full team: GK: Henderson RB: Alexander-Arnold CB: Gomez CB: Van Dijk LB: Robertson CM: De Bruyne CM: Henderson CM: Grealish RW: Salah ST: Aguero LW: Mane
