Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher disagrees with fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville's assessment that Manchester United should not look to appoint a top-end manager just because Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal failed at Old Trafford.
Following Saturday lunchtime's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Manchester derby, the pressure has once again increased on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United, who were second-best against City in every department, have now won just one of their last six Premier League matches and are showing no signs of arresting their current slump.
Defeat to City, who got the job done thanks to an own-goal from Eric Bailly and a poked effort from Bernardo Silva, has left United in a deeply concerning position.
Following the full-time whistle, former United man Neville delivered his verdict on where United go from here, assessing the future of Solskjaer.
Neville told Sky Sports: "I thought Jose Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal and David Moyes were better managers than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
"However, Solskjaer finished second in the league and showed progression. Of course there are better managers in terms of credentials, but the confusion is they've gone for managers with world-class credentials.
"The hesitancy is the board have been down the route of bringing in a Mourinho but have been burnt by that. Who would they get now?
"[Mauricio] Pochetino would have a lack of trophies, because if he didn’t win trophies you’d say he didn't win before. What they'll do is stick to the long-term plan. There’s no doubt you can get a manager with more credentials than Ole, however, they’ve done that before and it’s been spectacularly bad."
With Neville suggesting that United should refrain from replacing Solskjaer with a big-name manager, Carragher has hit back at his fellow Sky Sports colleague, describing it as "nonsense."
Carragher tweeted: "What a load of nonsense it is that because Jose/LVG failed at #ManUtd they shouldn’t look for a better manager."
