Jamie Carragher disagrees with Gary Lineker over Trent Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool position

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has disagreed with Gary Lineker, who suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold should be playing in midfield, rather than in defence.

Lineker stated that Alexander-Arnold is 'the best passer in English football' and considering this, should be operating further forward - making the move into the centre of the park like Philipp Lahm and Joshua Kimmich did for Bayern Munich respectively.

The ex-Leicester City man went on to say that 'the best players should be in a position where they can more frequently use their brilliance'.

However, Carragher was quick to respond to Lineker, stating that the Reds' full-backs see more of the ball than any other player and that with the system that Jurgen Klopp operates, they essentially become midfielders when in position.

The 43-year-old also suggested that, considering the number of assists Alexander-Arnold achieves, it would be 'mad' to move him into midfield.
