Jamie Carragher defends Gary Neville after Roy Keane comments on Sky Sports

Manchester United's 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City on Wednesday was always going to provoke some serious debate - especially with Roy Keane and Gary Neville in the studio.

Sky Sports invited the Irishman in to chew the fat ahead of the game alongside Graeme Souness and former City goalkeeper Joe Hart, with Neville and Jamie Carragher providing co-commentary.

And Keane was in typical form pre-game when he laid into Paul Pogba .

"I wouldn't believe a word he says. There's no meaning behind it," said Keane after Pogba's pre-match interview.

"He’s on about being a team-mate, if you’re going to be a good teammate you’ve got to run back when you’re defending.

Roy Keane's reaction as Gary Neville attempts to defend Man Utd's Luke Shaw

"The guy is a talented boy, but we’re saying the same thing over and over again. The number of times we’ve seen him in games where he is not sprinting or running back.

"I don’t think he leads by example, from what I see. I don’t know what he’s like on the training ground or when they’re travelling, but from what I see. He mentioned body language and pride, but I don’t see it in his performances.

"He’s talking about body language – but throws his hands up in the air. He’s a big problem for United."

And then after the match - which City won courtesy of goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane - Keane didn't appear too pleased with Neville's attempts at defending some of United's players, notably rolling his eyes when he spoke about Luke Shaw.

It might for a fairly spiky atmosphere, and Carragher - who was off camera - weighed in to defend his punditry pal, writing "Leave @GNev2 alone!"

After all, no-one gets to treat Neville like that unless it's Carragher.

Not even his former United captain!
