Jamie Carragher compares Trent Alexander-Arnold to Kevin De Bruyne after West Ham exploits

Jamie Carragher reckons Trent Alexander-Arnold is on a par with Kevin De Bruyne after the Liverpool full-back starred in the comeback win over West Ham on Monday.

Record-equalling Liverpool moved to within four wins of a first title in 30 years but were made to prove their credentials in a battling 3-2 win over struggling Hammers.

A 21st successive league victory at Anfield matched the Reds' own top-flight record, set in 1972, while an 18th consecutive win drew them level with Manchester City's Premier League landmark set in 2017.

Alexander-Arnold played a huge role in the win at Anfield, providing the assist for Georginio Wijnaldum's opener before teeing up Sadio Mane to seal the late win.

And Anfield legend Carragher believes Alexander-Arnold, who equalled last season's league record of 12 assists for a defender, should rank alongside Manchester City's assist king De Bruyne.

"What makes him special is it is like having De Bruyne at right back, like a midfielder at right back," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"People talk about his defending, but what he is doing – like Beckham at wing-back under Hoddle because of his quality – Alexander-Arnold is like a wing-back with the positions he plays."

And Carragher's fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says the Liverpool defender's "quality is out of this world".

Neville added: "What staggers me is they don’t have two big strikers to hit with loads of headers, but Mane and Salah score headers because the quality is that good.

"If the quality is that good and the speed of the run, you are going to get chances, the quality is out of this world."
