Jamie Carragher claims Man Utd front three are as good as Liverpool's and Man City's

Jamie Carragher has boldly claimed Man Utd's front three are as good as Liverpool's and Man City's.

The Sky Sports pundit gushed about United's attacking trio of Marcus Rashford , Anthony Martial and Daniel James, following their roles in the 2-1 weekend win over City.

Rashford and Martial gave United a 2-0 lead from which City were unable to recover in the first Manchester derby of the season on Saturday.

And their performance led Carragher to claim only one thing is stopping them being held in the same regard as the forwards at their rival clubs.

Carragher said: "Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James - when these three are running forward, they are as good as the City three or Liverpool three, they’re just not consistent enough, that’s their problem.

"But at the weekend they were out of this world, and City couldn’t cope with them."

Liverpool's front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have drawn plaudits over recent seasons for their part in the Reds' success.

The triumvirate scored 56 times between them in the Premier League last season, and provided 15 assists.

They have started this campaign in a similar vein, contributing 20 goals and 12 assists.

By contrast, since James' arrival at Old Trafford this summer, United's front three have scored 17 times and assisted 21.

Man City's attack of Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva meanwhile have trumped both United's and Liverpool's three in terms of goals, with 22, but trail on assists with just seven.

While in terms of big chances created, Liverpool's attack top the teams with 18, followed by City on 16, and United on 11.

And United could well be adding to their impressive front line, after reports suggested the Red Devils were 'very interested' in signing Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz .

The 20-year-old banged in 20 goals for the German club last season, and has also attracted the attention of Liverpool, while remaining on City's radar.

Havertz has hinted previously he is open to a move to the Premier League, but said: "For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”
