Jamie Carragher claims Liverpool were "not ready" for Man Utd game

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has accused the Reds of not being "ready" for their huge clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's side needed a late Adam Lallana goal to salvage a point as their perfect start to the Premier League season came to an end.

It was a below-par display from the Anfield outfit after entering Old Trafford as firm favourites against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's struggling side.

Whilst Liverpool were the favourites, it was the home side who rose to the occasion against their rivals - and Carragher claims the visitors were "not ready" for the occasion they faced.

Analysing the game on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Carragher said: "This was what United were all about. Challenges, tackles, making a derby, making it aggressive.

"Liverpool were not ready in the first half for a derby game, for the intensity of this game."

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra also accused Jurgen Klopp's side of being "over confident" and treating the fixture like any other game.

Asked if it felt like a win for United, Evra said: "Yes, of course, because many people before that game were thinking Liverpool were going to beat them very easily.

"I always say, a derby is a derby no matter what position you are in the league.

"A derby is a derby, so that's why I think we need to give a lot of credit to Manchester United.

"Also I was disappointed with the performance of Liverpool, because they didn't play that game like it was a derby.

"They played like they were just playing Manchester who were 14 in the league.

"I think they were a little bit overconfident."
