Jamie Carragher can’t believe what Liverpool did in the final moments of Southampton defeat

Jamie Carragher was left baffled by Liverpool's decision to play a short corner in the dying seconds of their defeat to Southampton whilst expressing his concern for their lack of goals away from home.

The Reds are without a win in three matches after Danny Ings' first-half striker condemned them to defeat at St Mary's.

Jurgen Klopp 's side have won just two of their nine away Premier League games this season and the goals on the road have dried up in recent matches.

Carragher took particular exception with the Reds' decision to play a short corner in the dying seconds for the second time in three matches.

“No. I expected a reaction from Liverpool on the back of two really poor performances. I think we’ve just had another one (bad performance)," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"At the start of the show, we looked at Liverpool’s away form - it’s been so poor - and the chances created, they never look like scoring. Even tonight again, we talk about the goalkeeper coming in: did he make a good save?

"Did anyone have a big chance where you think he has to score? That’s a really big worry for Liverpool at this moment in terms of what they’re creating away from home, it’s nowhere near enough.

"I just wanna add, when a top team, and Liverpool over the last few years have scored a lot of late goals, it’s like they’ve forgotten how to play those seven or eight minutes when they need something.

"The way Liverpool played in the first 15 minutes of the second half was fantastic, they penned Southampton in and they couldn’t get out.

"You’d expect that in the last seven or eight minutes, for Southampton to be hanging on. What summed it up was Liverpool’s corner - can you believe what Liverpool did there?

"They did the same against West Brom. The injury time has gone, you’ve got one last corner, it has to go in the box. You’ve basically got to score in 10 seconds. They played it short, it’s unbelievable.

"This Liverpool team has been amazing, and it still is amazing, but it’s going through one of the first rough patches it’s been through in the last few seasons, but the big worry is where are the goals, and where is the creation? It looks non-existent at the moment, certainly away from home.”
