Jamie Carragher and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink tell Graham Potter what to do to avoid Chelsea sack

Jamie Carragher and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have sent Graham Potter a warning regarding his position as Chelsea head coach. Doubt has been cast over the 47-year-old's future at Stamford Bridge following several unconvincing results upon the return of the Premier League.

Heading into the World Cup break, the Blues sat outside the top-six and were winless in five Premier League fixtures. Upon the return of club football, Chelsea earned a 2-0 win over Bournemouth and a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Despite bringing the west Londoners' winless streak to an end, Potter has faced growing criticism from sections of the fanbase, with some supporters calling for the former Brighton boss to be sacked. With patience running thin and the Chelsea coach under pressure to transform his sides fortunes, Carragher and Hasselbaink have expressed their concern.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Blues' blockbuster clash with Manchester City, the former Liverpool defender reminded Potter of the 'ruthless' culture that runs deep at Stamford Bridge. Carragher said: "We never want to see a manager lose his job after 10 matches.

"He’s come from Brighton, we want to see English managers do well, but that doesn’t mean we should just defend them, saying everything is fine. Chelsea is a very ruthless club, and the reason we talk like this is because it’s Chelsea.

"If it was Tottenham, Arsenal or Liverpool I don’t think we’d even be speaking about a manager like this after 10 games. The owner changed the manager after about five games so that’s my point, is it any different?

"That remains to be seen. They talk about doing things differently, but this is a crowd who expect to be challenging for trophies and where Chelsea are right now won’t be acceptable to these supporters."

Hasselbaink chipped in, claiming that Potter will be given the necessary time to implement his ideas despite speculation over his future. The former Chelsea striker said: "He will be given time, but he also needs to buy himself time.

"The only way he can do that is winning matches. You want the best players here, you need to be in the top four, otherwise you’re not going to attract them.

"It’s just a fact. Yes, he will be given more time I think, but he needs to buy himself time by winning matches."
