Jamie Carragher believes Richarlison is most effective for Everton in a wide forward role.
The attacker netted the winning goal for the Toffees as he fired in from a narrow angle early on during Monday night's 1-0 victory over Southampton.
It was the Brazilian's 11th goal of the season and his fifth in five games, having netted in three consecutive matches and also scoring a brace in an FA Cup win over Spurs.
Yet Carragher does not believe that Richarlison is best as an out-and-out striker, instead agreeing with Carlo Ancelotti's assessment that he is most effective when making runs in behind.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the victory over Southampton, Carragher said Richarlison is at his most devastating when operating as a wide forward in a similar style to Raheem Sterling.
He said: "It must be difficult to prepare to play against Everton because you’re not quite sure what they’re going to do with each game that they play.
"I think Richarlison is at his best when he’s facing forward and he can make runs.
"Carlo Ancelotti mentioned before the game that he’s not great when his back is to goal, he doesn’t see him as an out-and-out striker and, as he mentioned before the game, centre-left is his best position.
"You just think of those runs in behind.
"You think of Sterling, you think of [Sadio] Mane, playing what you’d call a centre-left, wide forward .
"Timo Werner is trying to find that position now under Tuchel and that’s what you want to see from that player, making penetrating runs in behind."
