Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on Saturday announced that semester examinations will resume from January 9.
Mid-December, JMI had declared vacation till January 5 after violence erupted outside the campus following protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
The university had also postponed the ongoing examinations.
“The remaining semester exams shall start from January 9 (mostly for postgraduate courses). Most of the undergraduate courses shall start from January 16. JMI is scheduled to open on January 6 after winter vacation,” said the university administration.
The university said that medical cases would be treated separately. “Cases of serious hospitlisation or medical grounds will be dealt with separately. Parents are requested to ensure that their ward(s) appear for the examination on the given date,” said JMI.
‘Check updates’
While asking students to visit the university website “regularly” for updates, the administration said that the examination schedule had been uploaded. “Students appearing in odd-semester examinations are hereby advised to come to the university as per scheduled date of their examination displayed at www.jmi.ac.in and www.jmicoe.in,” read a statement released by the university.
On December 15, a demonstration against the amended citizenship law saw police enter the university campus and allegedly baton charge students.
Peaceful protests against the law have continued outside JMI campus with students, residents and members of civil society participating in the demonstrations. The administration said that the schedule for the upcoming semester will be notified faculty-wise on the website.
