James Wiseman to be reevaluated in 7-10 days after spraining wrist vs. Pistons

After losing Marquese Chriss to a leg injury at the start of the season, the Golden State Warriors have been dealt another blow to the frontcourt. Through 20 games into his young career, James Wiseman will be sidelined with an injury.

During the Golden State Warriors Saturday night tilt against the Detroit Pistons, the No. 2 overall pick from the 2020 NBA draft suffered a sprained wrist. The Warriors will reevaluate Wiseman’s injury in 7-10 days. Over the next 10 games, the Warriors are scheduled to play six games, including the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.

Wiseman’s injury happened during the third quarter against the Pistons. The rookie converted a dunk past Detroit’s Isaiah Stewart on a lob from Draymond Green. Wiseman seemed to use his hands to brace an off-balanced fall at the baseline.

The Memphis product finished the contest against Detroit with 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field with nine rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes off the bench. Wiseman has been a steady contributor to Golden State’s lineup, averaging 12.2 points on 62.3% shooting from the field with 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 21 minutes per game.

With Wiseman and Chriss both sidelined due to injury, Kevon Looney is the only healthy traditional center on Golden State’s depth chart. After getting moved to the starting lineup, Looney will likely have a more prominent role in Steve Kerr’s rotation. When Looney is off the floor, Eric Paschall and Green could get minutes in a small ball center role. With Wiseman slated to miss at least a week, Kerr will have to get creative in the frontcourt.
