James Wilson comments hint at why he didn't make it at Manchester United

Former Manchester United striker James Wilson has suggested he struggled to deal with the pressure of playing for one of the world's biggest clubs.

The 23-year-old was released by United when his contract expired at the end of June and went on to sign a two-year contract with SPL side Aberdeen, having spent last season on loan there.

Speaking about his release from United, Wilson said: “I was expecting it for a while to be honest as I had been on loan the last few years.

“Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed my time there (at Manchester United) and am really enjoying my time here as well.”

Wilson told the Evening Express that he is looking forward to continuing his career in Scotland, in an environment where there is less pressure on him to succeed.

“I was always the boy that came from United and all that so the pressure has lifted a little," Wilson added.

“There is always going to be a little bit of pressure there anyway and all I have to do is try to deal with that.

“I have to focus on doing what I do best which is what I have been doing for the last few years."
