James Whale says he's the 'ideal' replacement for Piers Morgan as he eyes up GMB role

James Whale has revealed that he would be the ‘ideal’ replacement for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.

The 70-year-old radio personality has weighed in on who would be the best permanent fit to fill Piers’ shoes following his explosive exit from the show back in March over his controversial comments about Meghan Markle.

Piers, 56, found himself in a blazing debate with co-star Alex Beresford after he insisted that the Duchess of Sussex had fabricated claims during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey regarding the Royal family.

Now, after Piers’ untimely departure, James has thrown his name into the ring for the sought-after Good Morning Britain role.

Putting pen to paper for The Express, the star suggested that ITV bosses ‘have no clue’ what they are doing in trying to secure temporary replacements for Piers.

In a bid to help Piers’ former co-star Susanna Reid to host the show, Good Morning Britain producers roped in the help of Alastair Campbell – but according to James, he wasn’t the right fit for the job.

The radio star penned: “After the fiasco of the Piers Morgan walk out on Good Morning Britain, the programme makers are obviously not really sure what they're doing, apart from floating around in a pit of wokeness.

“They invited Alastair Campbell to be a guest presenter and then started telling him what he couldn't say. He was given a list of words banned by regulator Ofcom before he'd opened his mouth.”

James went on to reveal that he’s been waiting by the phone for a call from Good Morning Britain to offer him the role.

“I've been expecting the call from GMB for a while now. But blow me, it hasn't come,” he admitted.

“I'd be ideal for a couple of weeks or so.

“If I could help them get a little credibility back, I'd be more than happy to oblige. And I think me sitting next to Susanna Reid, above, would really make her day.”

James’ admission comes after he announced his recent engagement.

The radio veteran has found love again, three years after saying goodbye to his beloved wife.

Melinda passed away in May 2018 and now the radio star is set to tie the knot again.

The host revealed in 2020 that he was also battling cancer, sharing his spine, brain, and kidney cancer diagnosis, but he has vowed to marry again.
