James Tennyson vs Gavin Gwynne: Belfast boxer reveals son's inspiration ahead of title fight

James Tennyson has revealed a new source of inspiration as he plots boxing glory.

The Belfast fighter returns to action this weekend in a massive British Lightweight title fight.

Tennyson takes on Gavin Gwynne for the vacant Lonsdale belt at the Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood this Saturday night.

'The Assassin' hopes victory will tee him up for another shot at a world title later in the year or in early 2021.

As well as success inside the ring, the 26-year-old says he wants to make his one-year-old son - who also goes by the name of James - proud of his daddy.

"I am enjoying every minute of it," Tennyson said of fatherhood.

"With training, I am not out working a 9-5 job. I am spending a bit more valuable time with him and I am enjoying it.

"It would be good for him to just be proud, and tell his friends and stuff what I have done in my career. Just being proud of what I have achieved."

In a promotional video shared on his social media, Tennyson added: "Everything I do now is for him. You go out, get the win, do the damage and get home safe and sound.

"And you obviously want your opponent leaving the ring safe and sound as well. That's the plan."
