James Tavernier targeted as Hibs fans slammed for missile throwing AGAIN during Rangers clash

Hibs fans have been slammed for throwing missiles AGAIN during the clash with Rangers at Easter Road - just two weeks after the club launched a probe into the conduct of supporters during the Edinburgh derby against Hearts. Sky Sports commentator Andy Walker and former Ibrox winger Neil McCann, working at the Edinburgh ground for BBC Scotland, hit out at supporters as James Tavernier, who opened the scoring from the penalty spot, appeared to be targeted by a section of the home support.

Walker said: “ Hibs have a bad problem in that corner.” And McCann blasted: “When are these people going to learn?”

Hibs chief executive Ben Kensell launched a probe after Hearts star Alex Cochrane was pelted with chips during the derby draw earlier this month and Jambos scorer Lawrence Shankland also appeared to have a bottle thrown at him. Kensell said: “We can’t condone it. Sometimes the passion of what happens and the situation and how it unfolds dictates some of that. There are scenes we need to look at it, we ask our fans to always act appropriately and there are a few incidents we’ll look at post match. Passion is what football is all about but we have to address things internally as ultimately it has to be a safe environment here at Easter Road and I believe it is.”

It’s the latest in a long line of incidents of missile throwing at Easter Road with Tavernier previously confronted by a fan and Borna Barisic and Celtic’s Scott Sinclair having bottles thrown at them.
