James Tavernier scoops PFA Player of the year as David Turnbull wins young player

Rangers skipper James Tavernier has been crowned the PFA Player of the Year, whilst Celtic midfielder David Turnbull has won the young player of the year.

The award rounds off an almost perfect season for Tavernier, with the right-back beating off competition from within his own club, after Allan McGregor, Steve Davis and Ryan Kent were all nominated for the gong.

Tavernier scored a whopping 19 goals from defence throughout the campaign, as the 29-year-old helped inspire Steven Gerrard's side to their first Premiership title since 2011 - and managed to do so without losing a solitary game.

It's been a completely different story for Celtic, who have endured a disastrous season, but Turnbull's inventive and energetic displays have stood-out since the New Year, with the 21-year-old pipping Nathan Patterson, Josh Doig and Ali McCann in the final voting.

Gers boss Gerrard rounded off a hat-trick of personal awards earlier today by claiming the PFA Manager of the year prize, which will go alongside his SPFL and Scottish Writers' awards.
