James Tavernier reflects on Rangers' mid-season collapse and questions over mental strength

Rangers captain James Tavernier has been reflecting on the club's mid-season collapse after their dramatic loss of form handed Celtic the title initiative.

The full-back also addressed questions about mentality within the squad, and said he wouldn't be in the position he's in if he wasn't strong-minded.

He said that the squad failed to deliver last campaign, but are itching to put things right in the 2020/21 season, reports the Daily Record.

Tavernier said: “I’m strong-minded and I don’t think I would be in the position I am if I wasn’t strong mentally.

“The events last season were just one of those things. They didn’t really affect my performance.

“It’s something that’s in the past. I’m looking to the future and to making myself the best I can be and helping the team the best I can. We’re a good group of boys.

"We know the demands and we didn’t deliver last season. It got cut short but we didn’t deliver.

“We know the demands of the club. Playing for this club, the fans demand that we bring silverware to Ibrox.

“That being said, we have a duty this season to really knuckle down and concentrate on ourselves.”
