James Tavernier provides Rangers injury update as he aims for quick return

Rangers skipper James Tavernier admits he's desperate to return to action after having his stitches removed on Thursday.

The full back has missed the last two games after undergoing surgery last week on an appendix problem.

His absence was noticeable against St Mirren as Rangers struggled to create down the right hand side like they often do and Steven Gerrard will be desperate for him to return soon.

The initial diagnosis was he would be missing for up to three weeks and Tavernier himself is hoping to return as soon as possible.

He will miss games against Hearts and Ross County over the next seven days as well as remaining a major doubt for the visit of Aberdeen a week on Saturday.

His problem could have been a lot worse had Rangers doctor Mark Waller not made a quick diagnosis and sent him for further tests and Tavernier was thankful to his surgeon.

He posted on Instagram: “Just over a week on from surgery today my stitches came out.

“So it seems an appropriate time to thank Dr McCourtney and all the staff at Ross Hall for getting me safely and successfully through my operation and then providing brilliant aftercare.

“I also want to thank everyone for their well wishes, they haven’t gone unnoticed.

“This is the beginning of the road to recovery. I’ll be back on that pitch as soon as I can, I miss it already.

“In the meantime I’m behind the boys every step of the way.”
