James Tavernier makes Rangers transfers call and Michael Beale progress prediction

JAMES TAVERNIER is confident the addition of new faces to the Ibrox squad will help Rangers step up their improvement under new boss Michael Beale.

Beale made it nine game unbeaten since he succeeded Giovanni van Bronckhorst as manager with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St Johnstone on Saturday evening.

Borna Barisic hit the winner late in the first half to ensure Rangers rounded off a positive week following their wins over Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.

Beale now has time on the training ground to work with his squad ahead of another fixture against the Saints when Rangers return to Premiership duty this weekend.

But the focus will also be on adding to the group as Rangers close in on a deal for Todd Cantwell and look to bring in Nicolas Raskin, the Standard Liege midfielder, and Swansea City forward Morgan Whittaker.

Those three moves would be a welcome boost for Beale as the Ibrox injury crisis continues to ease and Tavernier believes the early signs of progression will be continued as Beale makes his mark on his return to Glasgow.

Tavernier said: "We have really taken it on well. It’s about continuing to learn and progressing the team.

"The more weeks go past the better we will get. We now have a week to get ready for St Johnstone at home which will give us a chance to get people familiarised with the way we want to play.

"Playing on a good surface helps and hopefully we are going to get better and better.

"You always want to try to keep it fresh and keep competition levels really high. If you want to move forward as a club that’s what you have to do.

"You need to freshen it up and keep rotating the squad, so we have to get the best players we can and keep pushing the squad.

"Yeah [we will be better come February]. If we are going to add more players to the squad it is going to make us stronger. Going forward it will make us better."
