James Tavernier makes Rangers pledge as captain praises 'winning mentality'

Rangers captain James Tavernier has assured fans the squad will maintain a "winning mentality" if the Scottish Premiership is able to restart.

The Scottish football shutdown has seen the season put on hold, with the lower leagues of the SPFL already declared to be over.

The Premiership could be decided based on the table as it stands if play can't be resumed, which would see Celtic crowned champions.

Rangers trail by 13 points after an appalling run of form post winter break but their skipper has assured that they'll be raring to go if the season does restart.

Tavernier told Sky Sports News : "We go into the start of the season wanting to win every game.

"Obviously we go into the middle part of the season wanting to win every game so I don't see this as any different if we go back and it's the final stage, we'll want to be winning every game.

"We've got a winning mentality as players and as a club."

A decision is still to be made at the top of the Premiership (SNS Group)

Rangers players have made a donation to Marie Curie, and the Englishman says there was no hesitation about pitching in to help during the coronavirus crisis.

He said: "It's a no-brainer to get in touch with the lads and donate 15 iPads.

"We're all going through challenging times and even more so the people that are getting taken care of and their families who can't come and see them.

"So I think it was a no-brainer and I'm obviously proud of all the lads who have contributed and even the gaffer, who has contributed to it."
