James Tavernier makes Rangers penalty pledge after Alfredo Morelos Celtic miss

Rangers skipper James Tavernier says he’s ready to get back on penalty duty against Celtic.

The full-back has told gaffer Steven Gerrard he’s happy to resume spot-kick duties after Alfredo Morelos’ miss in the League Cup Final at Hampden.

Despite failing to score three of his five penalties this season, Tavernier said: “I wouldn’t have a problem taking one on Sunday. I’d be more than happy to take it.

“It will come down to who’s selected on match day because it has changed for different games.”

However, Gerrard has hinted a different Gers star will be handed the baton.

With Tavernier’s poor record this term and Morelos’ failure from the spot, the likes of Ryan Jack and Ryan Kent are now in contention to take over.

Gerrard said: “I’ve decided who will take a penalty if necessary. I’ve had a chat with some
individuals and spoken to the guy who will take it.

“He’s ready if and when we get that opportunity. And the penalty taker –or takers – practise them before every game.”
