James Tavernier injury blow for Rangers as Ibrox skipper limps off in Europa League clash

Rangers have suffered an injury blow with James Tavernier limping off during their Europa League clash with Antwerp.

The Ibrox skipper suffered a knock to the knee after a 50/50 challenge and he tried to continue but was unable to do so.

It comes just a day after it had been reported he suffered an injury in training but that news was rubbished by Steven Gerrard ahead of the game.

But now Rangers face a sweat over his fitness going into the final league games of the season after he limped off with just 25 minutes played.

He was replaced by Leon Balogun with the Nigerian filling in at right back but it's a major issue for the club with the full backs so important to how they play.

It was even more frustrating for Rangers as it comes just days after back-up full back Nathan Patterson was told to stay away from the club after being caught attending a party.

He would have been the natural replacement for Tavernier at right back, having made four appearances as the captain's back up this season.

Kemar Roofe then limped off at the end of the first half to be replaced by Ryan Kent after picking up a calf problem.
