James Tavernier in Rangers squad prediction as captain eyes another shot at European glory

James Tavernier is applauded by Eintracht Frankfurt following the UEFA Europa League Final at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan

JAMES TAVERNIER has vowed Rangers will regroup and emerge stronger from their Sevilla heartache to launch another attack on European competition next term.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side were left defeated and deflated on Wednesday night as an agonising shoot-out loss handed Eintracht Frankfurt the silverware.

Rangers looked on course to write their names in the history books when Joe Aribo gave them a second half lead but Rafael Borre pulled the Germans level.

And it was the striker that inflicted the final blow on Van Bronckhorst's side as he converted the winning spot kick after Aaron Ramsey saw his effort saved.

Rangers must now pick themselves up for a shot at domestic success on Saturday as attentions turn to the Scottish Cup final meeting with Hearts.

Champions League qualifiers await later this summer as Van Bronckhorst prepares to reshape the squad amid doubts over the futures of several key men at Ibrox.

And Tavernier insists they will come back better and stronger than before as they attempt to embark on a successful European campaign once again.

Tavernier said: "Yeah, it can be [the start of something special]. With the squad that we’ve got, we’re always going to continue to build on it and bring players in.

"The manager said he lost the World Cup final but it’s football. It’s very hard to take but it’s got to make you stronger and we’ll be back fighting again.

"We have gone toe-to-toe with some of the best clubs in Europe. We have no fear whoever we’re up against.

"We’ll continue to have that same mentality. Any team we come up against, we’ll go toe-to-toe with.

"Yeah, it’s obviously important [to hold on to the core of the squad]. The club is always continuing to recruit the best players that we can.

"We’ll continue to build. That’s what we’ve been doing over these past few years.

"Like I said, this is the best squad Ive been with and it’s only going to continue to get better and better."
