James Tavernier in Rangers programme gaffe as captain forgets Dunfermline rout despite pre-match 'research'

Rangers captain James Tavernier scored an own goal in his Ibrox programme notes ahead of Friday night's thumping win over Dunfermline.

Gers fans were sent home happy after Kemar Roofe's double capped a 5-0 win with John Lundstram, Scott Wright and Ianis Hagi all also on target.

But some eagle-eyed supporters will have spotted a bizarre error in his address to the fans in which he claims to have researched the Pars in depth – yet seemingly forgetting the fact he has already played against them.

Tavernier started a 6-0 win back in August 2017 in the same competition and even scored after 27 minutes.

But four year later he would write: "This will be the first time I have taken on the Pars in my time in Scotland, and having researched them and seen their history and the size of their fanbase, I am sure they will be targeting a return to the Scottish Premiership as soon as possible."

It's not the first time his Rangers programme notes have raised eyebrows.

Back in March 2020, Tavernier would make a revealing admission ahead of a home defeat to Hamilton that his side couldn't handle a bit of pressure

His team would turn it around to become Premiership champions the following season but he said: "Whenever anybody puts a bit of pressure on us in Scotland or gets in our face it seems to affect us too much.

"At the start of the season teams dropped off us and we were scoring four or five goals, but now they smell blood straight away and put us under pressure.

"We are not good enough domestically to react to that."
