Rangers captain James Tavernier says he will cherish his special moments with Steven Gerrard 'forever' after the bombshell news of his boss' exit.
The 41-year-old has been appointed Aston Villa head coach and his entire backroom staff is expected to go with him to the Premier League.
Tavernier has been Gerrard's captain at Ibrox and together they ended Celtic's quest for 10-in-a-row by winning Rangers ' 55th Premiership title last season.
Now the Ibrox club are looking to a new future without the world-renowned football figure. Taking to Twitter, Tavernier has thanked Gerrard for his efforts.
He said: "I’d like to thank the Gaffer, Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw, Jordan Milsom and Scott Mason for everything they have done for me personally, for my family, my team and our club.
"We’ve achieved so much together. We as a team have grown. We demanded more from one and another.
"But most importantly we’ve developed into better players and better people. The club is in a better place, of that I have no doubt.
"The cherished moments will be forever special….bringing Home 55. Now we as a team will be fully focused on the next chapter that’s to come."
Tavernier was slaughtered by some Rangers fans on Wednesday for gaming on Twitch as his manager prepared to leave Ibrox.
