James Tavernier earns Dani Alves comparison as Rangers star continues incredible form

Owen Hargreaves reckons Barcelona legend Dani Alves would be delighted with the form being shown by James Tavernier this season.

The Rangers skipper netted his 15th goal of the season on Thursday night when he slotted home from the penalty spot to make it 2-2 against Standard Liege.

The Ibrox side would go on to win the game and clinch qualification to the last 32 of the Europa League and Tavernier has played a big part in it this season.

As well as his 15 goals this campaign, the right back has 10 assists for Steven Gerrard's men and Hargreaves couldn't believe how good the defender has been.

And that meant he had to compare him to a player many view as the best attacking right back to have played the game in the shape of Alves.

He told BT Sport: “Unbelievable, I think Dani Alves would be proud of those numbers – 15 goals and 10 assists."

Tavernier then rounded off his week by being named the Premiership player of the month for November.

The Englishman scored four times in three league games during the month with a double in the 8-0 thrashing of Hamilton as well as goals against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

Rangers boss Gerrard was also named manager of the month.
