James Scott wanted for Hibs loan transfer to fill striker hole but Jamie Maclaren return a long shot

Hibs are interested in a loan move for Scotland under-21 cap James Scott.

The Easter Road club are working on a number of fronts to strengthen their forward options, after it emerged Christian Doidge could be out for the majority of this year.

Scott is one who is on Hibs’ radar.

The 20-year-old is out of favour at Hull City and could be available on loan.

Dundee United were also interested but have now re-signed Marc McNulty although St Johnstone and Hibs both remain keen.

Scott moved to Hull from Motherwell last year but hasn’t had the best of luck with injury with the Tigers.

Hibs sporting director Graeme Mathie is working on several forward options for manager Jack Ross.

There was talk of a loan return from Australian international Jamie Maclaren but that is highly unlikely, as he is set to begin the A-League again with Melbourne City.

Hibs have already agreed a deal to sign winger Chris Mueller from Orlando City.

The US international will move on freedom of contract in January although there have been talks to try and get a deal done in this window.

So far Major League Soccer has been reluctant to let that happen.

Hibs are also looking to strengthen their defensive options.

They have had a number of failed bids for St Johnstone defender Jamie McCart.

He remains a target and Hibs could move again if Saints go out of Europe before the close of the current transfer window.

The capital club have also rejected an approach from Aberdeen for Martin Boyle, with a £500k bid thrown out.
