James Scott's Hibs debut assessed as Jack Ross reveals the one thing his side must fix quickly

Hibs manager Jack Ross was enthused by James Scott's debut – and insists the loanee will be a big part of his side.

Scott played 84 minutes against Dundee in the 2-2 Premiership draw on Sunday lunchtime and his boss was mightily impressed.

He'd struggled for game time at parent club Hull City and for that reason Ross was delighted his new man was able to play the majority of the match.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ross said: "I was really pleased with him.

"I think the early part of the game it took a little bit of time for him to get into it, understandably.

"I thought, given his lack of football, to get 80-plus minutes out of him was really good.

"The second half in particular a lot of his play was really good and hopefully the supporters have seen why we were so keen to bring him to the club, how he fits with how we do things and how we play.

"He'll be an asset to us moving forward."

Ross was less than enthused by his side's performance defensively against the Dee.

Former Hibee Jason Cummings opened the scoring and despite a Martin Boyle penalty and Ryan Porteous header turning the game, Hibs were pegged back again by Paul McGowan's late header.

The manager recognises his side need to tighten up at the back after too many goals conceded from crossed balls.

He added: "You have to defend your box as a team, whether that is from open play or set-pieces.

"The truth is most teams will concede a lot of goals from that area all a round the league.

"We've done a lot of things really well this season but that is the one thing we need to improve upon.

"Top teams do that and we're not far away from being a really good team.

"We create a lot, we're positive, control the game well. But that last part of protecting your box, particularly when you get yourself ahead is important and we need to continue to improve at it."
