James Sands nears Rangers transfer as rising American star in talks over 18 month loan deal

Premiership champions Rangers are reportedly closing in on the signing of emerging USA international James Sands.

The 21-year-old New York City FC star is understood to be nearing a switch to Glasgow, with an 18-month loan deal in the works.

And the Daily Mail state an agreement is on the brink of being reached for a player who helped lead City to their first ever MLS Cup.

Sands has been a key man under Ronny Deila and has turned heads with his versatile displays that has helped him become a regular at international level.

It comes with Nathan Patterson on the verge of joining Everton in a money-spinning move that could rise to £16m, depending on add-ons.

Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst is aiming to put his own stamp on a squad who have responded well to his coaching since he replaced Steven Gerrard in September.

And the deal to land Sands provides him with options in the middle of the park with Ryan Jack remaining a long-term Rangers absentee.

The Ibrox side currently hold a six-point advantage over rivals Celtic with both hell-bent on winning the title with a place in the Champions League group stage up for grabs.
