James Ryan to see independent concussion specialist this week, Leinster confirm

James Ryan will see an independent concussion specialist as he works his way towards a return from his latest head injury.

The Leinster and Ireland second row came off in the first half of the final Autumn Series Test against Argentina and, having completed the graduated return to play protocols, will up his training load with his province this week.

However under World Rugby rules he will see a specialist, having previously suffered a number of head knocks this year.

Ryan's return for Leinster is likely to be on hold so he will sit out the province's attempt to successfully bounce back from last weekend's loss to Ulster with another RDS fixture, this time against Connacht on Friday night.

Jamison Gibson-Park is a doubt with his thigh issue, and will be further assessed. Max Deegan is also set to miss out with a mouth injury sustained last Saturday, while Dan Leavy is following return to play protocols
