James Rodriguez urged to resolve Everton future after Colombia World Cup snub

James Rodriguez has been urged to resolve his Everton future by the president of the Colombian Football Federation.

Rodriguez claimed a combined 11 goals and assists in 23 league games last season following his summer arrival from Real Madrid.

But as reported by the ECHO earlier this month, Rodriguez has already been informed by the club that he can leave the Blues this summer.

That is because the former Madrid man doesn't feature in Rafa Benitez's plans this season and he is free to leave, should the right offer be tabled.

Rodriguez is yet to feature for the Blues this season, with him having to miss his side’s opening two Premier League games as a result of having to self-isolate.

However, Blues boss Benitez remained coy when asked if the forward would return to his side’s squad for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town.

Rodriguez’s lack of playing time for Everton this season has also resulted in him missing out on a call-up for Colombia's World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile next month.

And now Ramon Jesurun, the president of the Colombian Football Federation has explained the reasons why the 30-year-old has missed out and urged him to resolve his Everton future.

“Nothing other than pushing for James to get back to his rhythm of play. I am not very aware of where he will play this season. We hope he fixes it,” Jesurun told Gol Caracol via Sport Witness.

“He is a very important person, a great footballer and one who enjoys the appreciation of the coaching staff. The issue of the call up is the decision of the coaching staff.

“Hopefully James can resolve his future. There have never been vetoes for anyone, the 50 million Colombians are eligible to be in the Colombian Selection. The channel has always been open.”
