Everton's hopes of finding a new club for James Rodriguez on deadline day hang in the balance with the player indicating he is prepared to stay at Goodison.
The Colombian has been made available by the club this summer but has, so far, been unable to agree terms with another team.
Everton had been hoping Rodriguez, 29, would reach an agreement with his former club Porto and be a makeweight in a deal that would see Luis Diaz head in the opposite direction.
But, so far, James has not been able to strike a deal with the Portuguese club and sources close to the player have said an agreement looks unlikely at this point on the final day of the window.
It has put a roadblock in the way of Everton's hopes of adding 24-year-old winger Diaz to Rafa Benitez's squad.
Rodriguez has also been offered to AC Milan but an agreement has also been rated as very doubtful for a player who earns in excess of £200,000-a-week at Everton.
The transfer windows in most of Europe's main leagues close at 11pm, in line with the Premier League window, but deals can be done until midnight (BST) in France and Italy.
Everton still have time to find a taker for Rodriguez and alleviate a portion of his wages from the club's costs but noises from the playmaker's camp have suggested he is willing to stay with the Blues, despite Benitez making it clear he does not feature in his plans.
