James Rodriguez responds to La Liga myth after impressive Everton start

James Rodriguez has congratulated a fan for busting the myth that he struggled in La Liga.

The attacking midfielder has looked every bit the same star that impressed so much in the 2014 World Cup since joining Everton this summer.

Whilst some have described Rodriguez's time at the Bernabeu as a disappointment, one Real Madrid fan has sought to dispel that myth.

After the Colombian's good form for the Toffees, Twitter user @TotalKroos posted a thread entitled "Busting the narrative that James Rodriguez struggled in La Liga".

The thread looks at Rodriguez's stats for his time at Real Madrid, pointing to the fact he was named the best midfielder in La Liga after his first season at the club.

Even after falling out of favour under Zinedine Zidane, Rodriguez still scored eight goals in 13 starts in 2016/17.

The thread continues with a look at Rodriguez's minutes per goals and assists, which totalled a healthy 98.

They add: "James Rodriguez was the fourth-highest goalscorer for Real Madrid in his four league seasons behind only Benzema, Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Fourth-highest assists. Second-most assists for a Real midfielder only behind Kroos.

"All this when he participated in only 55 per cent of league games in that said period.

"All I ask is some respect for James Rodriguez, he is such a class player.

"Top talent. From time-to-time he has shown the world his incredible quality as a pure talented footballer.

"Let's enjoy this gifted footballer. At Real Madrid, all I can say is he was: underused. Underrated. Genius nonetheless."

The thread prompted a response from James Rodriguez himself, summing up his time in Spain.

"It was not bad," he said with a thumbs up.

Toffees fans will be hoping he goes some way to recreating those figures at Goodison Park.
