James Rodriguez posts cryptic video message ahead of proposed Everton transfer

James Rodriguez has shared a cryptic video ahead of his proposed transfer to Everton.

The attacking midfielder is believed to be close to finalising a move to Goodison Park with recent reports suggesting he will have a medical this morning.

Rodriguez would be reunited with manager Carlo Ancelotti if the move goes ahead and there's even speculation he has taken a wage cut to make sure Everton are not hindered by financial restrictions.

Posting on his Twitter and Instagram accounts, the player has shared a cryptic video showing him hard at work during a training session - perhaps getting ready for the upcoming Premier League season?

Rodriguez has an incredible following on social media and the tweet of the videos reached over 400,000 views and 24,000 likes while the Instagram post has amassed 1.6m views from among his 46million followers.

Fans cannot help but notice it has a distinctly blue colour scheme as well. The nets the Colombian star is firing his efforts into are blue. The training obstacles he dribbles around are blue. He even changes from a Dennis Rodman basketball jersey into a light blue shirt.

The video was captioned 'Hard work pays off', with fans speculating the message means he has been rewarded with a move to a Premier League side despite a struggle for game time with Real Madrid in the most recent season as the Spanish club looked to move him on.

Blues supporters are understandably excited by the recent video with a number of them already welcoming him to the club.

One fan even noticed that Everton forward Richarlison has already 'liked' a tweet confirming Rodriguez's transfer is set to be officially announced in the coming days.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema also responded to the video on Instagram, replying with fire emojis to who could soon become his former teammate.

Rodriguez has followed Ancelotti once before when he went on loan to Bayern Munich and previous comments by the Blues boss seemed to indicate it could be just rumours like his time in charge at Napoli

Previously, he's said: "James Rodriguez? I like him, I like a lot as a player. When I left Madrid, James Rodriguez followed me to Bayern Munich. He came to play.

"But he followed me as a rumour to Napoli and now he is following me here to Everton as a rumour.

"I have to be honest, I like him a lot. But he is a Real Madrid player. I think he will still be a Real Madrid player."

Since those comments, it's understood Ancelotti has made his desires to bring the player to Merseyside known to the Everton board, whether on loan or permanent transfer.

The Blues will continue to keep tabs on Rodriguez's situation but they have alternative targets for the position and remain focused on offloading unwanted players and then pressing ahead with bringing in midfield reinforcements - the key area in need of strengthening this summer.

Napoli's Allan and Watford's Abdoulaye Doucoure are the manager's main targets and all efforts are going into bolstering the weakest area of the team.
