James Rodriguez open to Arsenal transfer as father says midfielder is considering options

James Rodriguez's foster father says the player's future is still up in the air amid interest from Arsenal.

The Gunners are keen on prising Rodriguez away from Bayern Munich — the midfielder is on loan from Real Madrid until the summer but that agreement can be cut short for a £3m fee.

Rodriguez, who has not started for Bayern since November 3, is open to a move to the Premier League and could sign for the Gunners in January if Aaron Ramsey's proposed move to Juventus goes through before next week's deadline.

But Juan Carlos Restrepo says the 27-year-old is keeping his options open, and could see out his time at the Allianz Stadium before returning to Real.

"He is comfortable in Munich," Restrepo said.

"I don't have news about it, but there may be offers based on those rumours coming from England.

"He is calm and he feels that he's at a good level again and that he's physically strong.

"That gives us a perspective that he is happy, motivated and working well, as he is eager to achieve new success."

Bayern are unlikely to take up their option to buy Rodriguez for a fee in the region of £40million, while his chances of earning a regular role back at Real are bleak.

And Restrepo says the player is open to a move in a bid to find regular first-team football.

He added: "Real Madrid are one of his loves, but unfortunately he had to look at a different course.

"However, that does not mean that he doesn't love Los Blancos, an institution that allowed him to enjoy beautiful moments.

"Inside his heart, given that he is a fan of Real Madrid, he will contemplate the possibility of returning.

"Real Madrid own his rights and I imagine that if he has good performances then his return would be possible."
