James Paxton's knee still not right after throwing in extended spring training game Friday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ James Paxton threw four innings in an extended spring training game Friday, but is still feeling some discomfort in his left knee. The lefty has been on the Injured List since May 4 with inflammation in that knee.

This could potentially be a problem for the Yankees, who had to put CC Sabathia on the IL after his last start. The 38-year-old lefty went to New York on Friday to have his right knee treated by team doctors. Having been through this before, Sabathia expects to miss just one start, but the Yankees' rotation is already stretched thin.

The Yankees have been without Luis Severino since the start of the season. He was initially shut down early in March with inflammation in his right rotator cuff and then diagnosed with a partially torn lat muscle. Six weeks after that diagnosis, Severino still has not started his throwing program.

Paxton, 30, is 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA in seven starts in his first season in pinstripes.
