James Palmer: Broncos GM John Elway likes QBs in 2020 NFL draft

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway confirmed during his pre-draft press conference Tuesday that the team takes the 2020 quarterback class into consideration when evaluating this year’s class.

“We’ve looked at them, we’re aware of what’s out there and the list that’s out there,” Elway said. “So . . . it’s always hard because a lot of them are sophomores. You never know which ones are going to — which juniors are going to be coming out.

“But there are some other prospects [beyond this year’s class] out there, so we look at the possibility of what’s coming out next year.”

As Elway explained, it’s hard to know for certain which QBs will declare for next year’s class, but the team is monitoring the potential prospects. If Denver feels that next year’s class is much better than this year’s class, the team may wait until 2020 to go after a QB of the future.

Elway “does like” the 2020 class, according to NFL Network’s James Palmer. It’s uncertain how he feels about this year’s class.

Notable prospects that may enter next year’s draft include Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Oregon’s Justin Herbert and Georgia’s Jake Fromm.
