James Newman fires back at Piers Morgan's brutal Eurovision dig with GMB jibe

James Newman has issued a brilliant response to Piers Morgan's brutal dig about him being a "c**p singer" in the wake of his nil points result at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Unfortunately for Brit-winning songwriter James, his original track Embers failed to score a single point from either the Eurovision juries or voting public after he performed it at Rotterdam's Ahoy arena on Saturday night.

A defiant James stood up and cheered as his humiliation was cemented with a zero from the tele-vote, earning him applause from those around him.

Many UK fans blamed politics for James' Eurovision shocker, but Piers was less forgiving on James, tweeting: "The UK didn't get 'nul points' in the Eurovision Song Contest because of some sinister revenge for Brexit. We got 'nul points' because we had a c**p song, performed by a c**p singer who gave a c**p performance. End."

James broke his silence on his Eurovision disappointment on Monday afternoon with a very measured and dignified response in which he wrote: "I want to focus on the positives of this amazing experience. I stood on a stage and sang to hundreds of millions of people with a song that I wrote and love."

He ended the post: "Thank you to all the amazing dedicated fans who have supported me through the whole thing and made it all worth it. Because at the end of the day they are the people who you do this all for."

James also had some choice words for Piers' savage tweet when he told the former Good Morning Britain host: "Hey Piers sorry you didn’t like the song, at least I didn’t storm out!"

Comedian and radio host James Barr swiftly replied: "12 points," while one of his followers posted: "SLAM DUNK SLAM DUNK James Newman, correct you didn’t storm out you stood up for what you believed in, answered critics politely and respectfully and sang yr (sic) socks off, and took a standing ovation of love + support, unlike ‘Morgan’ when he threw his toys out the pram."

A third tweeted: "douze points! Thought your acceptance of the entire situation (not your fault and the song was not the worst in the competition by far) was charming."
