James Morrison 'wanted' by Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen as Premiership trio target former Scotland star

Former Scotland international James Morrison is a signing target for a trio of Premiership clubs - according to a report.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving West Brom this summer. The midfielder called time on his 12-year stay at the Hawthorns at the end of last season.

Sky Sports claim Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs are battling to land the veteran during this window.

Aberdeen have been active in the market and are on the verge of signing Funso Ojo after edging ahead of Hibs in their quest to land the Scunthorpe midfielder. Dylan McGeouch remains an option after Derek McInnes pulled out of a move for Toulouse's John Bostock.

And Paul Heckingbottom's side are still in the market for a central option after the Ojo setback and Morrison could fit the bill.

Craig Levein's need for a midifielder is stark after Arnaud Djoum's departure earlier this month. The Hearts boss also has a worry over the fitness of star turn Peter Haring and Olly Lee is free to leave Tynecastle this summer.

Morrison earned 46 caps during his time with the national team and was adored at West Brom for his consistent displays with the Baggies.

Dons boss McInnes himself was a star turn for the Midlands club an his connection could give his side a signing edge.

The player despite his vast Scotland experience has never played his club football in the Premiership.
